Biography
Darla Yancho has been writing and painting ever since she could using a variety of media and art expressions including acrylics, graphite, multimedia, photography and words. "I find that one discipline informs and feeds the other," she explains.
A fine art painter who refuses to be bored, Darla likes living on the edge and is driven by a frenetic need for challenge and unending change. She explores colour, texture and light in various media, defying the traditional idea that an artist must stick to one medium or one style.
Darla has lived and worked around the world, operating local from anywhere, creating images and artwork, telling stories one way or another. "My paints and pencils have gone from China & Malaysia, the Arctic Circle & London, to North America, to the corporate world, and everywhere in between," she says. Schooled at UC Berkeley and Indiana University, she currently resides in Raleigh North Carolina, USA.
Darla also creates fine art photographic images, focused on travel, documentary and human interest. Captivated by changing light, she again looks for interest in colour and texture, and seeks to obscure the line between photography and fine art.
"The search is still on for the best way to say what I want to say, be it with paints or photographs or written words. Art, after all, is just another way of having a conversation."
