James Johnston Artist's Statement:
"I want my paintings and sculptures to be interactive with the viewer. I want to get the viewers imagination working on the piece. I leave much to the imagination. The work brings the viewer into the middle of a story, the emotions are suggested, and the audience ends up providing the intimate details. With their involvement, the art becomes something for them to spend endless hours enjoying, as they fill in the missing pieces."
Commissions gladly accepted for "Umbrella Couples" Style Paintings.

In 1974 he became a student of and was mentored by George McMahan. In the mid 1980's he met and was assisted in the business of art by George E. Lee. James had his first professional show in 1974, in Oregon. His first solo show was in 1983 in Klamath Falls, Oregon as the invited guest of Klamath County Arts Association. His first International show was in 1985 in Japan as a member of American Artists International. James works from his home studio in Beaverton, Oregon or from his Mountain studio in SE Oregon near Lakeview. He is a current member of the Beaverton Arts Commision. He opens the Beaverton studio twice a year, in April and October for an "in studio" sale. All other times are by appointment only. E-mail your commission idea to James to begin the discussions. All commissions are scheduled as they are received. There is no time like the present to get the discussions started. All of the art is priced generally by size and material. The price list is adjusted each April. Only the finest materials and techniques are used. Every effort is made for the permanence and longevity of the art.
